The Millab prefix began in 1970 with a litter out of Marge Miller's first girl Cinder, whose pedigree went back to Dual Ch. Shed of Arden, Dual Ch. Cherokee Buck, Fld. Ch. Hiwood Mike and Ch. Labcroft Mr. Chips. She was bred to a Shamrock Acres dog and Marge discovered that line to have the 'look' she loved.
In 1974, Marge's Christmas present to herself arrived from Wisconsin. She became Ch. Shamrock Acres Royal Oak BYOB, CD. "Babe" finished her championship and her obedience title at the same show - a very busy and exciting day! Anyone who says dogs can't do both conformation and obedience at the same time, must not have had a Labrador!
Back to "Babe". She can be found in our pedigrees if you go way back - thanks to online pedigree databases such as www.pedigreedatabase.com, you can now research bloodlines much farther than the typical 5 generation pedigrees we usually see.
Marge became a serious obedience competitor, but truly loved a beautiful face, so she incorporated some Briary, Sandylands, Graemoor, Lockerbie and Dickendall into her Shamrock Acres lines.
Debbie, Max & Daniel Bates have continued the "Millab" lines, with line breedings on some of the great dogs of the past, such as Ch. Dickendall Arnold, Ch. Tabatha’s Drifter at Dickendall, Ch. Guidelines Mastercard and Eng. Am. Ch. Receiver of Cranspire, as we love the beautiful "English" stocky look. We strive for temperaments that are sweet and lovable, calm in the house, yet always quite willing to work or play.
Our pups have gone on to succeed in the show ring - whether it's conformation or obedience, and we've had some go on to earn hunting titles. In 2015 Debbie discovered the sport of Agility with her girl Blondie. Blondie went on to earn 4 Agility Championship titles and in the process has earned a whopping 58 AKC Titles in her lifetime. Blondie's daughter Chili Pepper has earned 3 Agility Championship titles and is hot on her mother's heels with 54 AKC Titles in addition to her senior dock diving title. But most importantly - more important than all the titles in the world, we like to see our dogs as "part of the family". Our 4 legged kids, sleeping on the bed and sharing our lives.
We don't breed often - typically only when we are ready to keep a new pup. In 2021 we bred our girl Beignet to Silver Grand CH Mexican CH Aquarius Immabe Trouble, who is sired by Multi BISS Am GCH Can CH Gateway's Nothin' but Trouble, who was the #1 Labrador in the Country in 2013. We kept a black girl for Marge, but sadly Marge passed away in May 2021. Her girl "Stormy" turned out to be a gorgeous girl, and now 5 years later has been bred to a phenomenal yellow boy, Grand Champion Atlantic's All in Good Time "Charlie".
The 2 dogs below are Charlie & Stormy.
Pups are due early April and we're very excited to see what we get from this litter to carry on the Millab name.
See below for more about our Stormy-Charlie breeding.

In April 2025, Debbie flew up to Maryland with the intention of finding an outstanding yellow boy to breed to Stormy. Though there are many wonderful dogs here in Florida, the Labrador Retriever Club of the Potomac puts on the largest and most prestigious show each year. With 655 Labradors entered, Debbie knew she'd see many of the top Labradors in the country at this show.
Sure enough, there were some gorgeous Labs at the Potomac! Tough decision, but Debbie set her sights on Grand Ch. Atlantic's All in Good Time "Charlie". Charlie is gorgeous and what was even more impressive was seeing Charlie in the Stud Dog Class with some of his progeny, who were stunning. In meeting Charlie, he was sweet, calm, had a gorgeous head, bone, coat, topline and tail set. Debbie decided then and there that Charlie would be the perfect boy to compliment Stormy.

This is a photo of Charlie in the Best of Breed ring with his handler Sander, who came over from Europe to attend the Potomac. Charlie showed beautifully for Sander and earned a judges Award of Merit, which is a very big deal at the Potomac.
Charlie is owned and bred by Deborah Weinman of Atlantic Labradors in Long Island, NY. He has all his health clearances, including Hips OFA Good, OFA Elbows Normal, OFA Eyes Clear, OFA Heart Echo Clear, EIC Clear, PRA Clear, HNPK Clear, CM Clear and Startgardt Clear.
We're very excited to bring Charlie's lines into our Millab lines, as he has some phenomenal dogs in his pedigree, including some Hyspire dogs we've always loved. Charlie also goes back to Multi-BISS Am Grand CH Can CH Gateway's Nothin' But Trouble. Trouble is 2 generations back on Stormy's side and 3 generations back on Charlie's side, so this will be a distant line breeding.

This is Daniel Bates handling Stormy and winning Best of Winners for 2 points at the Jupiter-Tequesta Dog Show. This was a special win under judge Mustapha El Khorchi, as he is a respected Golden Retriever breeder judge and mentor for the Golden Retriever Club of America.
Daniel also handled Stormy to her UKC Championship in just 2 weekends.
Stormy is not only a beautiful girl, but she has all her health clearances and has also earned Novice and Open Agility Titles. She loves swimming, frisbee, retrieving and is a perpetually happy girl!
Back in 2021, we bred our girl Beignet to Riot, Silver Grand CH Mexican CH Aquarius Immabe Trouble. We kept the only black female and named her Millab's Perfect Storm "Stormy".
Stormy has turned out to be a beautiful girl, who looks a lot like her daddy! She finished her UKC Championship easily and has earned some agility titles.

Riot is Silver GCH Mex CH Aquarius Immabe Trouble, by GCH Gateway's Nothin' But Trouble x GCH Aquarius Immabe The Flyest Chick. Beignet spent her first 4 years with our cousin in Louisiana. She lived on a farm and got to swim in the river. Due to some hardships in the family, we got Beignet back when she was 4 years old. She was beautiful and muscle-bound from all the swimming in the river. We did all her x-rays, health tests and DNA testing and all was clear, so Beignet was bred twice and brought us our beautiful big boy Jagger in her first litter (bred to Pete - see below) and our stunning black girl Stormy, when bred to Riot.
This was our litter back in 2020, in the middle of Covid. As you can see we're wearing masks at the dog show! We kept a male from this litter, "Jagger".
We usually keep girls, but decided to keep a boy this time. As his father's name is Ch. Annual's Pop Star, we named our boy Millab's Rock Star. We call him Jagger. This was his first "show" and Jagger baby turned out to be a rock star for sure! This was a fun match hosted by the Fort Lauderdale Dog Club, and he won best baby puppy in the match!
Jagger's Judges were Hector Hector for Best of Breed & Sporting Group, and Mara Powell & Leanne Hugg for Best in Match.

Jagger's First Win at 4 1/2 months old!
Looking back at this picture in the years to come, we'll certainly remember this time with everyone wearing masks!
Baby Jagger wasn't able to get a lot of training or socializing during COVID, so we were thrilled when he won Best in Match! It was great to see his tail wagging, even though this was all new to him. Can't wait to see what the future holds for this special boy.

All our dogs have their hips & elbows x-rayed and certified by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) before we even think about breeding them. This is not a guarantee that every pup's hips & elbows will be free of dysplasia, but the chances of having healthy, sound puppies are greatly increased by breeding only dogs with OFA certifications. Here's an example of an OFA Certification for Hips.

Hip ratings fall into seven different categories: Excellent, Good, Fair (all within Normal limits), Borderline, and then Mild, Moderate, or Severe (the last three considered Dysplastic). On the other hand, Elbows are rated Normal or Abnormal (dysplastic). Elbow dysplasia is classified as Grades I, II or III. We would only breed a dog with a Normal rating.

PRA, Progressive Retinal Atrophy is an inherited eye disease that causes degeneration of the retina, causing dogs to go blind at an early age. Our dogs are tested by a board certified ophthalmologist to make sure they show no signs of PRA.

Our dogs are checked for heart murmurs. A breed registry number will be issued for any dog found to be free from any congenital cardiac disease at 12 months of age or older. The exam must include auscultation.
Before breeding, our dogs are DNA tested for inherited diseases such as PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy), EIC (Excercise Induced Collapse),
DM (Degenerative Myelopathy), CM (Centronuclear Myopathy) and other diseases.

Millab's Southern Beignet
Beignet went to a family member in Louisiana as a puppy. She ran and played on their small farm, swam in the Comite River and developed lots of muscle tone! She returned to us in 2019. We have big plans for this beautiful girl!

We were very excited about this litter, as it was a line breeding going back to Ch. Dickendall Arnold and Am. Eng. Ch. Receiver of Cranspire. It's unusual to see "Rever" so few generations back, as he would typically be much farther removed. But Teddy's breeder Sharon Parr, had the foresight to freeze semen from Ch. Delight Bear De Menthe, a Receiver Grandson. On our girl's side, this is our 10th generation of Millab Labradors, which we are very proud of. My pick from this litter turned out to be PACH3 Millab's Red Hot Chili Pepper. She is the yellow girl at the top of the page (circular photo).

We don't have puppies often, but feel free to contact us to learn when we might be expecting a litter.
If we don't have pups, we're always happy to refer you to a good, reputable breeder.
